Abstract

Multi-agent coordination under Signal Temporal Logic (STL) specifications is an exciting approach for accomplishing complex temporal missions with safety requirements. Despite significant progress, these approaches still suffer from scalability limitations. Decomposition into subspecifications and corresponding subteams of agents provides a way to reduce computation and leverage modern parallel computing architectures. In this paper, we propose a rewrite-based approach for jointly decomposing an STL specification and team of agents. We provide a set of formula transformations that facilitate decomposition. Furthermore, we cast those transformations as a rewriting system and prove that it is convergent. Next, we develop an algorithm for efficiently exploring and ranking rewritten formulae as decomposition candidates, and show how to decompose the best candidate. Finally, we compare to previous work on decomposing specifications for multi-agent planning problems, and provide computing and energy grid case studies.
